Dragged to a Yoga Class

I reluctantly started yoga about 5 years ago when I was dragged by my wife to a class that was instructed by Margau. At that time I was reasonably active and still am. I did some mountain biking, gym workouts (aerobic and some weight work) and off road running. I thought yoga would be easy - a mere walk in the park - especially for someone who works out at least 3-4 times a week.

However, I was shocked how difficult this form of exercise turned out to be. I found that holding the different poses is extremely tough and it takes a tremendous amount of effort and concentration to maintain poses for a long period of time. It was amazing how quickly I felt the differences within my body. An immediate benefit was creating strength in my core and leg muscles. I was never able to build sufficient strength in my core and legs during my gym workouts. Yoga immediately changed all of that. Another huge benefit to me was the flexibility and balance I gained from the classes, especially in my hips, upper legs, shoulders and chest.

Overall yoga has improved my quality of life; I am more attentive and energetic at work and in my personal life. I sleep better, am less moody, feel stronger, more flexible and have better posture. I only wish I started yoga earlier in my life.
