The "sound from which all sound originates" is said to be the Om sound. Om, as defined by Hindu scripture, is the primordial sound of the universe. Even during the quietest of moments, there is an undercurrent of sound that resembles a gentle wind or the ocean in the distance. This has been called the Om sound which deepens our connectedness to the world around us.

Sound is made up of vibrations. The number of vibrations per second is called frequency. Everything and everyone vibrates on a certain degree of frequency. Hindu scripture defines Om as the original vibration of the universe. Sound vibration can have a meaningful effect on one's physical, mental and emotional state. Repeating the Om sound assists in aligning our frequency with the original frequency of the universe. Tuning in to the universal vibration promotes a feeling of serenity and oneness with our environment and the world. The renowned inventor, Nikola Tesla posited, "if you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration".

How to Chant Om

Typically heard and written as "OM" due to how it sounds when chanted, it is more accurately spelled and sounded as "AUM". To begin, maintain a straight spine and a still mind. The "A" sound begins at the diaphragm. As the sound progresses, sustain the "U" sound throughout the heart and throat until it reaches the crown. Then end with the "M" sound as the exhalation is complete. To experience a deeper and more profound practice, chant AUM for a minimum of fifteen minutes.
