Holiday Hot Chocolate

This Holiday Hot Chocolate can be enjoyed as a treat or as a pre-workout energy drink or post-workout recovery drink. Dark chocolate which some consider to be a superfood is a powerful source of antioxidants as well as minerals such as magnesium, iron, copper and zinc. It can also act as a mood booster. Dark chocolate contains a compound that improves energy level, focus and helps us feel relaxed and content.
3 cups almond milk (or preferred milk)
1 bar 70-80% dark chocolate
1 Tbsp raw cocoa powder
2 tsp honey
2 tsp brown sugar
1 Tbsp pure vanilla extract
⅛ tsp ground cinnamon
pinch of ground nutmeg
pinch of ground cardamom
pinch of sea salt
Place almond milk in a saucepan and warm over medium heat. Melt down the dark chocolate bar with 1 Tbsp water in a small saucepan on low heat. Add the melted chocolate to the almond milk and mix thoroughly. Add the cocoa powder to make it more chocolatey and the honey, brown sugar, vanilla extract, spices and sea salt. Keep stirring until well blended. Adjust taste to personal preference. Makes 2 generous servings.
