In Bridge Pose, the body is arched expanding the entire front of the body. The whole spine becomes involved in the action; creating space by extending and curving the back.

Benefits of Bridge Pose:

  • Expands the chest and lungs

  • Improves blood flow to the neck and brain

  • Tones the lumbar and dorsal regions of the spine

  • Massages the abdominal and pelvic organs

  • Strengthens the arm, leg and gluteal muscles

  • Soothes the mind and nervous system

Contraindications: Neck or Shoulder Injury

Avoid these poses unless you are practising under the supervision of an experienced teacher.

Focus of One-Legged Bridge Pose

Sustaining the arch in the body while firmly grounding the right leg and vigorously lifting the left leg from the gluteal muscle. Physical effort and reflection are needed to master the pose. To build endurance, do not go to your maximum, relax and reflect. Repeat with more effort, not force, pause and fine-tune. This leads to greater physical and mental awareness.
